Complaint issued against Salmon Scotland's claimed 'sustainability'
WildFish and Coastal Communities Network Scotland (CCN) have submitted a complaint to the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) over the use of the term "sustainable" by Salmon Scotland. The complaint outlines concerns about environmental, welfare, and sustainability issues, including the negative impacts on wild salmon, high mortality rates on farms, pollution, and the use of marine ingredients from "unsustainable" fisheries. WildFish and CCN argue that the Scottish salmon farming industry cannot claim to be sustainable, and consumers perceive sustainability as having a positive or neutral environmental impact. Salmon Scotland rejects the grounds of the complaint. (
