Seaweed farms could act as an effective carbon sink

The Climate Foundation, led by Brian von Herzen, aims to "reforest" oceans with seaweed using highly engineered platforms, as part of efforts to extract carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. The foundation won a $1m Milestone award from Elon Musk's Xprize, and teams are now competing for a share of a $100m prize fund. The plan involves using platforms to cultivate seaweed, which can grow up to three times faster than surface seaweed. However, critics argue that the approach, including the use of artificial upwelling, poses environmental risks and may not be an effective solution. (The Guardian)
