Sitkana start-up receives US federal grant for floating power generators

Sitkana, an Alaska-based startup, has received a federal grant to develop floating power generators that harness energy from tidal and river currents. The company’s technology equips idle fishing vessels with propellers for power generation. Sandia National Laboratories supports Sitkana by designing, operating, and testing the system. Sitkana was among seven projects awarded a share of $7.4m in grants. Its two versions, Chinook and Orca, cater to various needs, from off-grid individuals to coastal communities. This innovative approach to hydropower aims to provide sustainable energy solutions, contributing to the reduction of reliance on fossil fuels while providing economic benefits. (Yahoo!Tech)
