# Lab-grown coral transferred to Thailand's reefs after five years

In Thailand's southern waters, marine biologists embark on a unique annual dive to collect coral sperm and eggs, aiming to combat reef degradation caused by climate change and human activities. This meticulous process involves breeding corals in a lab for up to five years before reintroducing them to their natural habitat. Initiated in 2016 at Man Nai Island, home to over 98 coral species, this project seeks to rejuvenate areas affected by mass bleaching events, thereby supporting both the marine ecosystem and the country's economy dependent on vibrant coral reefs.
