# UK allocates £33m funding for green shipping projects

The UK government has earmarked £33m ($42m) for 33 green shipping initiatives nationwide through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition. With 13 organisations in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight participating, projects range from electric shipbuilding to infrastructure for powering ports and grids during vessel downtime. Maritime minister Lord Davies highlighted the importance of innovative technology in fostering sustainability and economic growth in the maritime sector, emphasising the creation of skilled jobs and transformative solutions for coastal communities. This marks the fourth round of funding aimed at advancing green maritime endeavours. ([BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-68104154)
