# UK approves carbon capture at Drax Power Station

The UK government has approved plans for carbon capture technology at Drax Power Station, the country's largest power station. The technology will be installed in two of the four biomass units at the station, which burn wood pellets for electricity. The move is seen as a milestone for the UK's net-zero ambitions, with the potential to remove around eight million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually when fully operational. However, critics argue that continued subsidies for Drax are supporting unmitigated wood burning, contributing to deforestation and releasing CO2 into the atmosphere until carbon capture is implemented.
