UK approves CO2 pipeline for HyNet North West CCS project
The UK Government has authorised the construction of a CO2 pipeline, marking a significant advancement in the HyNet North West carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative. This new infrastructure will facilitate the transport of CO2 from industrial sites in North West England and North Wales to Eni's depleted gas reservoirs beneath the Liverpool Bay seabed. The project, led by Eni UK, aims to capture and securely store up to 4.5m tonnes of CO2 annually in its initial phase which is expected to be operational by 2025. There is also a potential expansion to 10m tonnes post-2030. (
