UK government approves major expansion of Norfolk offshore wind farms
The UK's Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Claire Coutinho, has approved plans for the significant expansion of two offshore wind farms, Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon, in Norfolk. Owned by Equinor, the expansion will potentially double their capacity, adding up to 53 new turbines and enabling the provision of renewable energy to an additional 785,000 homes. The development includes new offshore substations and extensive underwater cabling, aiming to enhance the UK’s commitment to its net-zero targets while addressing local ecological concerns, such as the impact on north Norfolk's sandwich tern colonies.
