UK nuclear plant proposes saltmarsh alternative to fish-deterrent system
EDF, the owner of Hinkley Point C, has proposed creating over 800 acres of saltmarsh on the River Parrett as an alternative to a fish-deterrent system for the nuclear power station. The original plan involved installing an acoustic fish deterrent with 280 speakers, but concerns about its impact on marine life led to a consultation on the saltmarsh proposal. The saltmarsh would create a new habitat for fish and animals, improve local water quality, and serve as a natural carbon storage solution. The plans are developed with Natural England, Natural Resources Wales, and the Environment Agency. (
