UK urged to invest £30bn in carbon capture to achieve net zero goals

A UK government-funded report has stressed the necessity of investing £30bn ($37.5bn) in direct air carbon capture systems to meet the country's net zero emissions target by 2050. The systems are expected to remove 48 million tonnes of CO2 annually, storing it beneath the North Sea or Irish Sea. The Energy Systems Catapult report highlights that without this technology, particularly to counteract aviation emissions, the UK cannot achieve its climate objectives. The findings come amid broader efforts to bolster energy security and carbon management, with significant investments directed towards innovative CO2 removal technologies. (The Telegraph)
