# UK's CCUS strategy unreliable and expensive: comment

A report from Carbon Tracker criticises the UK Government's optimistic and now outdated assumptions underpinning its carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS) strategy. Highlighting a history of "over-promising and under-delivering," the report warns that the current CCUS strategy may trap consumers in a costly, fossil fuel-dependent future, overlooking more sustainable and economical alternatives. Despite the government's £20bn ($25.3bn) investment pledge for CCUS development, the report urges a reassessment of targets, emphasising the competitive edge of renewable energies and battery storage solutions over CCUS in reducing carbon emissions.
