Plans to introduce a nationwide Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for recycling used drinks bottles and cans have been further delayed until October 2027. The scheme, originally proposed in 2018, has faced setbacks due to disagreements between the UK government and devolved administrations over issues with including glass containers and deposit cost levels. While the scheme will cover PET plastic, steel, and aluminium cans across the UK, there is still no consensus on whether to include glass, with Wales intending to take a different approach. The delay aims to ensure interoperability across nations but raises concerns over missed recycling and climate targets. (Business Green)
