UNESCO report highlights alarming ocean warming and sea level rise

UNESCO’s 2024 State of the Ocean Report reveals that the rate of ocean warming has doubled in 20 years, and sea level rise has doubled in 30 years. Contributed by over 100 scientists from nearly 30 countries, the report highlights critical issues such as ocean warming, pollution, acidification, and biodiversity loss. The ocean's average temperature has risen by 1.45C, significantly impacting coastal species and ecosystems. UNESCO urges immediate implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement and increased investment in marine forest restoration and marine protected areas to combat these growing threats. (UNESCO)
