University of Glasgow secures £3m for aquaculture research

The University of Glasgow’s School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine (SBOHVM) has received £3m ($3.8m) for four projects aimed at addressing challenges in salmon and seaweed farming. Led by Professors Martin Llewellyn and Dr. Sofie Spatharis, the £2m BBSRC Industrial Partnership Award will investigate plankton-based drivers of gill disease in salmon. Additionally, a £585,021 project will develop tools to predict biofouling in seaweed farms. Two further projects, in collaboration with various institutes, will focus on sea lice detection and pathogen diagnostics in salmon farming. The efforts demonstrate Glasgow's commitment to advancing sustainable aquaculture. (The Fish Site)
