Vietnam plans to boost domestic aquaculture sector

Vietnam, the world's fourth-largest producer of farmed fish, plans to boost its marine aquaculture sector, aiming to reach seven million tonnes by 2030. With seafood export turnover reaching $11bn in 2022, the country has become a significant player in the global seafood market. Vietnam's advantages include a growing global demand for seafood, an extensive coastline, and an integrated global network through free trade agreements. However, challenges such as small-scale production and the impact of climate change must be addressed to optimise production costs and ensure sustainable growth in the aquaculture sector.
