World’s first major offshore floating wind turbine component exchange completed

A team of companies, including LiftOff, Vestas, and Cobra Wind International, successfully completed the first-ever offshore floating wind turbine major component exchange (MCE) at the Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm in Scotland. The operation used LiftOff’s innovative up-tower crane technology to replace a Vestas V164-9.5MW turbine generator without the need for large offshore cranes or towing turbines to port. This method, executed from offshore support and crew transfer vessels, reduces environmental impact, costs, and turbine downtime. The successful operation sets a new industry standard for efficient, on-site turbine maintenance and renewable energy operations. (Marine Insight)
