World's first ship-to-ship ammonia transfer completed, marking milestone for clean shipping fuel

The world’s first ship-to-ship transfer of ammonia in a working port was successfully completed at Port Dampier, Australia in September, marking a significant step toward using ammonia as a clean shipping fuel. The operation, led by Yara Clean Ammonia, Pilbara Ports Authority, and the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD), involved the transfer of 4,000 cubic meters of ammonia between two vessels. The trial supports the development of ammonia as a low-emission fuel, contributing to the decarbonisation of shipping, which accounts for 3% of global emissions. The project demonstrates safe, efficient ammonia handling, encouraging future ammonia bunkering operations. (Yara – Press Release
