Ørsted and fellow Danish company Wavepiston are collaborating to explore integrating wave energy with offshore wind farms in Denmark. This initiative aims to optimise energy yield from ocean resources, while enhancing energy consistency. Wavepiston's technology, which uses wave movement to drive hydraulic pumps, generating pressurised seawater for electricity and/or desalinated water, will be analysed for benefits such as increased energy production and reduced operational costs. Supported by the EU, Wavepiston is developing a seawater hydraulic power-take-off system. The company aims to scale up, targeting 17 projects by 2030, with anticipated revenues of €1-2bn ($1.3-2.6bn) and a capacity of 3.5-5.4 GW by 2035. (Maritime Executive)
